Photo:Was Boko-Haram leader Shekau first captured alive?

Some photos have been circulating online showing the capture of the sect leader Shekau (with his various aliases) ,before his supposed death.
media houses had earlier said he was killed in a gun battle with the security forces,while others said
he died at a hospital.If he was really captured alive,wouldnt it have made more sense to get valuable intel first from him?
As much as his death is great news for the troubled north east Nigeria ,one cant help but wonder how he died .....exactly?
