Two persons were reportedly killed at
about 10:pm, on Wednesday, when the residence of Chief Oris Onyiri, the
President- General of Egi Peoples Assembly (EPA), was bombed in Ogbogu
in Ogba /Egbema /Nodoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
One of the victims, called Stainless, was
said to be a relative of Chief Onyiri, while the other was a member of
the terror gang, who was shot dead in a shoot-out with some security men.
The other members of the gang escaped after one of them was gunned down.
Chief Onyiri, was a former secretary of the
state’s chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the Odili
administration.
Meanwhile, Chief Onyiri, who is said to be a
strong supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan, was not at home when
the assailants, who arrived on a motorcycle, came to detonate the
explosive.
It was gathered that part of a bungalow in his compound was blown off.
Chief Onyiri, the state’s coordinator of SURE-P, is also said to be a strong supporter of the state Chairman, Chief Felix Obuah.
It is speculated that he may have been tipped to be the campaign director of Nyesom Wike’s governorship campaign organisation.
There had been a running battle between the
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC)
members in the area.
It would be recalled that on Saturday, April
12, 2014, the PDP accused APC members of attacking its secretariat at
Omoku, also in Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area of the state.
