Gov Kashim Shettima of Borno addressing parents at Chibok
Tears flowed freely on Monday when Borno State Governor Kashim
Shettima and Senator Ali Ndumi arrived Chibok, where parents said that
234 girls, not the 129 that has been widely reported, were actually
abducted by Boko Haram militants last week from the Girls Secondary
School in zChibok.
They also confirmed that 39 of them have been able to escape.
During the visit, Senator Ali Ndumi, who represents Borno Southern Senatorial at the National Assembly, openly wept like a baby.
Speaking at the visit, Mallam Ibrahim Peter, aged 56, expressed the
deep unhappiness of the community, saying that if the girls were killed
it would have been another issue.
Governor Shettima, speaking tried to reassure the community that the
government will do everything they can to make sure the girls are
rescued. He appealed to the parents of the abducted girls to exercise
patience, stressing that the military are working earnestly on the
matter.
